Also on the King County front, Nancy and I did a bit of Big Day scouting
around Duvall and Carnation and stumbled on a SWAINSON'S HAWK chowing down
on some prey item in the field north of Sykes Lake. It finally took off
giving us excellent views of the graceful lines and dihedral, the white
under wing coverts contrasting with blackish flight feathers, the plain
brown back and tail, etc. It appears to be not fully adult, as the breast,
face, and back patterning was not as crisp as I would expect of a full
adult.
