Today, Friday, at the River "S" Unit of Ridgefield NWR, I saw three Eared
Grebes in Rest Lake. I called Al Larrabee to confirm, which he did.
That's a first for a long time at the refuge. I also saw a Western Wood
Pewee across from Ruddy Lake--the first of the season. Two Black-necked
Stilts were back again in Ruddy Lake seen by a number of birders along the
road. Two Anna's Hummingbirds were also seen. Over the last couple of
days there were more firsts for the season for a number of returning
warblers such as the Yellow Warbler and the Wilson's Warbler. The
Orange-crowned Warbler has been around for a couple of weeks. The Western
Tanagers have made their appearance also this week. Great week for birding!
