This article, appearing in a 2006 USFWS publication, indicates that Dunlin banded in the U.S. receive the green flag leg bands. The article focuses, mostly on a study at Barrow, Alaska where a Dunlin with black and white flags was determined to have been banded on an island in China.

Subject: [Tweeters] Dunlin with leg flag

Hello Tweeters,

A few weeks ago, I saw a Dunlin on San Juan Island that had a green leg flag. I did a quick web search for any projects using these identifiers on Dunlin, but found nothing more recent than the year 2000. Do any Tweeters know of anyone using leg flags to track Dunlin? If so, I?d greatly appreciate their contact info. If all else fails, I?m planning to email the Shorebirds listserv.

Thanks in advance,

Matt Dufort
