Hi Tweeters,

I skipped out of work this morning (Monday) and went to look for the Acorn
Woodpecker near Oakville in eastern Grays Harbor County, which was
reported by the Sullivans and others this weekend. I searched without
success for more than an hour near the intersection of Elma-Gate Road East
and Blockhouse Rd, but eventually found it at about 10:00 a.m. several
hundred yards to the northwest along Elma-Gate Road East. The bird was on
the north side of the road across from a shack with a bright blue roof.
I spotted it only by seeing the black-and-white flight coloration and
never heard it vocalize. It gave great looks for several minutes as it
foraged in oaks only 10-20 yards from the roadside before flying northeast
deeper into the woodland. A truly beautiful species and this bird saves
me from another fruitless search in Klickitat County.
