Subject: [Tweeters] Rail species, dare I hope?

Dear Tweeters,
Sorry for a late post. On Saturday (5-12-07), I was
finishing my NAMC area at dusk, around 2045 hours.
This was at the Van Horn Pond, a wetland just north of
SR 20, east of Concrete and west of Rockport (Skagit
County). It is located just west of the Jehovah's
Witness church, and is easy to recognize if one looks
for llamas.
Anyway, a small rail flew up. It appeared to have
white wing patches! I spent fifteen minutes playing
Yellow Rail tapes, but traffic noise is pretty intense
up there at Saturday evening time.
I don't see Soras or Virginia Rails flying very often,
but I don't remember seeing white wing patches. This
bird looked dark above. Wonder what it was? There had
been Virginia Rails and Soras calling there the same
day, only at 0350 hrs.
Just thought I'd pass it along, in case anyone is
driving by there in the middle of the night and wants
to play a tape.
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch
