Subject: [Tweeters] Morning at Point no Point

Hi all,

I spent a few hours (8-10) this morning with Ryan Merrill watching the
migrant show at Point no Point. The action wasn't fast and furious, but we
did have a fair number of Cedar Waxwings, Black-headed Grosbeaks, a few
Bullock's Orioles and a few warbler species to make it interesting. The
Lewis's Woodpecker was apparently just a one day wonder on Saturday and the
Lazuli Bunting and Yellow-headed Blackbird appear to have moved-on.

One Eurasian Collared-Dove was still in the area and a lone Western
Scrub-Jay mixed-in with the 57 (Ryan's count) Steller's Jays. The jays
really are quite the sight.

We did have one very interesting female grosbeak. It's bold, bright head
pattern, light undersides with distinct streaking on the flanks could have
easily made one think female Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Even though we had it
in scope view for a moment, it was difficult to assess the bill color and
the streaking didn't appear to go across the breast. Darn, some birds just
need to be left unidentified. Oh well, can't have a rarity every day at the
point.

Cheers and good birding,
