Subject: [Tweeters] Clark County Gray Flycatcher

Carol Kohler joined me as I did the final work on the Purple
Martin colonies at the Steigerwald Lake NWR near Washougal in Clark
County on Monday afternoon, May 14th. On the way out we spotted a small
light-colored flycatcher in a patch of blackberries that we took the time
to check out. The bird was all gray without any yellowish or brownish
tones on either the belly or back. The head and back were an even grayish
color and the belly was a very light gray. The bird was pumping it's tail
slowly but did not vocalize. The primary projection was short and the eye
ring was difficult to see against the pale colored head. After we left
that bird we encountered either it or another one about 200 yards away
along the same fence line where the first of these birds for Clark County
was found on May 6, 2000. This may have been the same bird seen here on
May 6th of this year about a hundred feet from where this bird was today.
I attempted some photos but it was a fairly small bird and I won't be
able to download and check the pictures until Tuesday.
There were also two WESTERN KINGBIRDS on the refuge today.
