Birders,

Yesterday, during a brief visit to Blaine (Whatcom Co.), I added two
species to my personal year list-- one expected, the other a bit
unexpected.

>From the fishing pier at the end of Marine Drive, at least 100
COMMON TERNS could be seen. Most of these were resting in a large
flock on the concrete breakwater around the marina at the Semiahmoo
Resort, across the harbor entrance but identifiable with a scope.
However, a few of them were constantly fishing over the harbor entrance,
and at times most of the flock was in the air for a few minutes.
Some of the were calling, and I heard them before I saw any.

Also, at the Blaine post office, a high-pitched call alerted me to
the presence of 6 CEDAR WAXWINGS in the tops of some small trees just across
the street.

Good luck and good birding,
