Today around 9AM I found a GRAY FLYCATCHER in the meadow at
the top of Discovery Park. This bird was long-billed, with a rather long tail
with white edges; quite gray overall with no trace of yellow on the
undersides, and only a trace of an eyering.
I watched it hawking bugs for several minutes until it flew off toward the bluff,
and I was unable to relocate it.
Also present in another meadow (above the northeastern beach access
trail) was a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE. I have not as yet seen or heard
any Willow Flycatchers this spring. My impression over the last couple
of years is that numbers of this latter species are down considerably
in the park.
