Hello all,
This morning on our regular Audubon walk around Bennington Lake east of
Walla Walla we (MerryLynn Denny, Ginger Shoemake, Priscilla Dauble) had a
Clay-colored Sparrow right at the parking lot - singing away for 30 min. The
Chipping Sparrows have really come in and this bird was trying to outdo
their song. This area is grassy/weedy with small trees and bushes - it was
above the parking area and at one point flew down to the grassy edge towards
the lake then back up to the higher grasses. We could not refind it at noon
when we got back to the parking lot. It would not cooperate for photos.
Also the orioles, both kingbirds, pewees, chats are all back in good
numbers. The first catbird of the year was seen today up Russell Creek for
Walla Walla Countys #196 for the year.
