On the way home from chasing the Acorn Woodpecker today, my wife and I
stopped at Nisqually NWR to view an exhibit of bird paintings by artist Dale
Thompson. Mr Thompson used one of my photos to paint from and I was curious
how it looked. I was very impressed! Very detailed with lifelike settings
and colors, the birds are ones found and seen many times on the refuge and
it was like seeing them there only clearer and closer. Well worth a visit,
especially if one is going to or past the refuge anyway.

And yes, thanks to good spotting by others who were there, I was able to see
and photograph the woodpecker. It appeared in the trees on the NW corner as
in previous sightings and went deeper in the woods to the north after only
about 5 minutes. This was about 11 AM so it may have returned later.
