Tweeters,
I never did find exactly where the American Dippers built their nest but the baby birds have fledged and are learning to forage. it appears that the parents have split the brood up one taking one fledgling and the other two youngsters on fishing trips. The little dippers can forage around under water pretty well but seldom come up with something edible. I saw one bring up a caddisfly larva but it couldn't get it out of the casing. They are very noisy when they beg. I heard what I thought might be the distress call of a bird whose nest was being robbed. when I followed it to the source I found one dipper being fed while it's sibling squawked it's head off.
if you want to see for yourself, I read that the parents feed them for 12 after they leave the nest, that will be until May 24ish.
look for them between the footbridge and the log jam, find the rocks covered with POOP and you'll know their favorite places, if they aren't there climb on the logjam and look downstream, again look for poop. and keep your ears open.
Wallace Swamp Creek Park is 1 mile North of Bothell way in Kenmore.
