Late both in reporting (sorry!) and for the season: a male Common Merganser
spotted from the Clinton ferry dock last Thursday. I can?t remember ever
seeing a COME this late in the season on or around Whidbey. Thanks to 2
line jumpers , I missed my preferred crossing and was rewarded with the
sight of a pair of Glaucous-winged Gulls copulating on an upright part of
the dock superstructure. The whole thing was a very delicate operation due
to the nails or wires set in the post to discourage birds from perching.
