Subject: [Tweeters] Pic of Brewer's BB Catching a Fish While in Flight

Hello, with all the recent interest in Brewer's Blackbirds, I thought I'd
pass along the following:
While working with shrubbe steppe birds for the Dept of Wildlife in the late
1980's, I was stationed at a fish hatchery at Moses Lake. Each day a number
of species would take their toll on the tondreds of fry kept outdoors in the
fish runs. The usual suspects were involved; kingfisher, night-heron, magpie
etc. The magpie would perch where the fish were jumping out of the water and
pluck them from the air, but I was most surprised to see female Brewer's
flying down the center of the runs and pulling out the little fish with
their bills as they swam past. They were then taken to their nests, about 4
feet up in bitterbrush (I believe) and parted out to the youngin's.
