Well I had a first! Last night heard the most harrowing bird racket going on
in the back yard, ran out in my sweats and barefeet, and here are 3 cats
surrounding a poor little baby robin! Mom and Dad are dive bombing the cats
and just continually making the most racket I've ever heard from birds!
First I tried to catch the little robin which decided to try to fly away,
well he didn't get too far and fell to the bushes behind the Plum tree, cats
right behind it! Finally flushed him out of the bushes and caught the
little thing. So I could tell he could fly, he was just probably wore out
and I really did not know what to do. Mom and Dad are going from one tree to
another still yakking like crazy and the 3 cats are not helping. So I tried
to follow the folks to see what tree maybe their nest was in. Figured it
must be somewhere close but it is almost dark and no way of telling if its
the Red maple or blue spruce or Locust, I'd bet on the maple. Could tell no
nest was in the Plum thou.
So held onto the little fella for some time, then sat him on a branch in the
plum tree, well he tried to fly away again and bang, hit the ground again,
cats right behind me. So gathered him up again, grabbed 2 of the cats which
were house cats, put them in the house and at same time trying to hang onto
the little robin, chased the other cat away with a big stick. Then just
stood between the trees wishing the folks would fly to the nest or something
but they were too upset wanting their baby back and just continued to sound
the alarms. Held onto the baby for a bit longer and decided to see if I sat
him on a limb he'd stay there and hopefully I could keep the outside cat
away. So Sat the littlle guy on the limb, and he stayed there. Now I hoped
Mom and Dad would find him and somehow get him back to the nest, don't know
how but hoped it would work. Stood guard on the cat for some time, mom and
dad still making all sorts of racket but think they now knew where their
baby was, so ran the cat off again, couldn't catch him anyway, he's half
wild, and came in the house. The folks racket continued for at least 15 more
min or so then things got quiet. I snuck out back trying to see what was
going on. Baby was gone from the limb, no folks making racket and no cat and
no feathers on the ground. Checked good this am for feathers, didn't find
any or a dead baby, so just hoping the little guy made it home and stays
there. Crazy place for Folks to have nest in the yard full of cats. First
time ever. He sure was cute.
