This afternoon, I took a walk out to the wetlands of the Chehalis Wildlife Area (WDFW) that you can see to the south from Highway 12 right behind the wildlife area sign (eastbound) just west of Elma. This is are is has some partially flooded grasslands that has had my curiousity bubbling for awhile. The walk was wet once I reached the end of the access road. There were two Red-necked Phalaropes swimming around the waters here. Also, seen were two Spotted Sandpipers, a Wilson's Snipe, and one Killdeer. I saw two juvenile American Robin too.

Of course, Red-winged Blackbird, Yellow Warbler, Song Sparrow, Common Yellowthroat, and Cedar Waxwing were plentiful as well. I was hoping for a Teal, but no luck there.

Viewing the west end of Wenzel Slough Rd. from where I was produced two bull Elk feeding in a grassy field. The both had short stubby racks of velvet covered antlers showing quite well.

Good birding,
