This morning my wife Pipper and I tried for the 3rd time to find the
Brewer's Sparrow reported Friday by Brad Waggoner and Vic Nelson at
Point-No-Point. As luck would have it, we re-located it at the edge of the driftwood and
native vegetation, south of the lighthouse, right where the trail enters the
woods and heads uphill. The bird appears very light, with a good amount of
dark streaking down the nape, a steaked crown and was fairly clear-breasted. The
facial pattern seemed well marked to me with a noticable but not real
prominent eye-ring. Also, the bill was light colored. It coorperated for several
minutes of good viewing at close range but beach goers and some dog traffic
forced it down the beach. Hopefully some good photo footage by Brad Waggoner (who
was going after it again this morning) will alows us to study the bird more
closely.
Speaking of Brad he joined us for some good looks at 3 Whimbrels on
the beach at the Nature Conservancy Preserve property at Foulweather Bluff.
Good birding,
Doug and Pipper Waktins
