Subject: [Tweeters] Memorial Day at the Hundred Acre Woods.

Greetings all,

I spent a pleasant afternoon surveying the new arrivals at the Hundred Acre Woods (NE Lakewood, Pierce County). There were roughly 40 species hanging around, some singing up a storm. It was good to welcome back the Orioles and Black Headed Grosbeak, and the Cedar Waxwings were there in numbers as well. It always surprizes me a little that this is the only month of the year when finding a Western Scrub Jay becomes a little difficult. They're here, but laying low with nesting duties, I suspect. I only saw one all day and I usually see 4 to 6 in an hour's walk. Noticable by their absence were the Western Tanagers. They're usually here by now.??
