To Teresa A. Eturaspe

I urge your office to deny the WHISKEY DICK GRAZING PERMIT

This substantial area of remaining less disturbed shrub steppe habitat may
be critical to the survival of populations and possibly species of rarer
plants, animals and game animals. While once this type of habitat covered a
large part of eastern Washington sustaining healthy populations of a rich
diversity of species, only a small fraction of these former wildlands
remain. Grazing often transforms these rich habitats into wastelands with
monocultures of plants like Cheat Grass - Bromus tectorum that are highly
resistant to re-colonization by the rich assemblage of plants and the
diversity of animals that they support. Reduction of this type of habitat
and fragmentation of this habitat is leading to the decline and local
disappearance and increasingly the extinction of the species that make up
the rich natural heritage of what we still want to call "The Evergreen
State".

I urge you to save this critical piece of wildland from irrepairable damage
that herds or
heavy, hooved, hungry bovines would do to this rare rich natural area and
the species for whom this area may be critical to their survival.
