Subject: [Tweeters] FW: 1st Saturday walk (June 2 - 10a - 12p) in Seward
Date: May 30 09:23:54 2007
From: Stewart Wechsler - ecostewart at quidnunc.net

Since Kathryn True's article on me and my restoration work at Seward Park
came out in last Thursday's Seattle Times I have offered to lead a walk this
Saturday 10am - 12 noon. (see description in "Original Message" below) to
see both what survives of Seward Park's Oregon White Oak ecosystem and what
we're doing to partially
rehabilitate it. (For you Tweeters there will be birds, but the theme will
be more the plants and the ecosystem as a whole.) I am covering for Paul
Talbert who offers a (free) walk in
Seward every 1st Saturday of the month. (There is no charge for this walk
either.) We will meet in front of the comfort station by the Seward Nature
center now under reconstruction.

For anyone that didn't see it or wants to forward it, here again is the link
to the article on me and my restoration work at Seward:

If the end of the link is cut off you can hit reply (but don't send) and put
the curser at
the end of the cut off part and delete the space, then it should work. (You
need to click "next", "next", "next" to see all 4 photos.) If you clicked on
the broken link you would have gotten the message "this page is no longer
available"

Hi Friends of Seward Park:

I'll be out of the country for the 1st Saturday Walk in Seward Park on June
2 , but Stewart Wechsler has graciously offered to fill in with a tour of
our oak prairie restoration project. If you missed last month's prairie
history walk (or were there but want to know more), Stewart is the prairie
expert spearheading our restoration of the rare oak prairie remnant in
Seward Park. Stewart brings boundless enthusiasm, expertise in plants and
butterflies, and long experience leading nature walks to this month's walk
(description below). Check it out!

Phoenix Plants of the Oak Prairie

Join Stewart Wechsler on a walk to see both rarer remnants of now threatened
ecosystems that have survived in Seward Park, and the "phoenixes of
photosynthesis" like the bright yellow Graceful Cinquefoil that have started
coming back after 100 years. Learn about the prairie restoration efforts led
by Stewart with the help of the Friends of Seward Park, the Seattle Parks
Department, the Washington Native Plant Society, Washington Audubon and
other caring citizens. Also learn about some of the organisms and
conditions that have contributed to the loss of these now rare natural
treasures and how you can help to turn the tide.

Meet in front of the comfort station by the nature center reconstruction
site at 10 am Saturday, June 2nd

Paul Talbert
