i just wanted to let you know that i recently wrote a
piece for my blog about some research that
investigates how migratory birds are able to find
their way "home". it seems they rely on being able to
actually SEE the earth's magnetic field, thanks to the
presence of a cryptochrome in their retinas.
cryptochromes are blue-sensitive photoreceptors that
are present even in plants! The link;
