I just found out about these two sites, and had to
share. Both of these websites are simple to use,
user-friendly, and free.

For distance calculations go to:

For area calculations go to:

I plan to use these sites extensively for my Ebird
(www.ebird.org) birding reports in order to calculate
distance traveled for "traveling counts" (for example,
birding while walking around in your neighborhood),
and to calculate the area birded for "exhaustive area
searches" (for example, birding a small park so
completely it could be considered an "area search").

PS. The distance website is also great for exercise
purposes--for figuring out how far you walked or
jogged as well...
