Hi everyone,
today after school my dad, brother and I went to the fill to see if we could
find the cattle egret. we parked in the horticultural parking lot and our
first bird was the great horned owl. it was perched up in a big cottonwood
tree with a dead top. some other very kind birders shared their binoculars
so we could get a really good view. I never got your names but thanks a lot!

next we walked over to the soccer fields and looked them over and didn't see
the egret. I turned around and their it was, perched on the bleachers just
south of the fields. then somebody walked directly under it and it took of
to the south west.

we walked back to the main area of the fill and spotted the egret feeding in
the vicinity of the birch snag on the south side of the trail. we watched
him until about 4:50 and then started to leave, and as we were walking away
it took off flying south.

it flew all the way across the lake until it was over the boardwalk and then
the freeway were it momentarily landed on a light post. then it flew west
and disappeared.

it was a beautiful bird and a first for me, I was surprised at how small it
was.

as we were walking back to our car one the biggest racoons I have ever seen
ran across the trail.
