When Susie Schaefer and I were at the Hoquiam Sewer Treatment Pond
Sunday afternoon, I was watching a mixed flock of Golden-crowned and
White-crowned Sparrows feeding in the gravel along the edge of some
blackberry brambles. At first glance, one appeared to be a White-
throated Sparrow. However, in closer observation it was an adult
Golden-crowned with a white throat and a narrow band of white across
its nape. The throat was certainly as well marked as that of a White-
throated Sparrow, but it definitely had the yellow forecrown with the
darker stripe above the eyes. In all other respects it looked like a
Golden-crowned and not a White-throated.
