Subject: [Tweeters] Ridgefield NWR: CINNAMON TEAL;

My mother (Olive) and I birded the River "S" Unit at Ridgefield NWR
(~4mi W of I-5 at Exit 14 in SW Washington;
http://www.fws.gov/ridgefieldrefuges/ ).

It was a very lovely day, with a mix of sun and large puffy clouds.

Highlights:

CINNAMON TEAL: There were two drakes and a hen seen on Rest Lake, seen
from the E side. These were the first of fall for me, as I have not
seen them since early to mid summer (I think).

DARK PHASE and HARLAN'S RED-TAILED HAWKS: The DARK PHASE RED-TAILED
HAWK was seen in the Oregon Ash woods at The Blind, while the HARLAN'S
RED-TAILED HAWK was seen on the SE side of the loop in the large Oak by
the dike, where the road begins to turn E before heading N back to the
entrance.

ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK: Two were seen, though others reported as many as
three. The one we saw was in the SE side grasslands. We saw one
flying over the grasses just N of The Blind. This hawk was about 100
feet high and moved enough before flying off, to show tail, and upper
and lower wing patterns very well. The other one we saw from about 50
feet in the SE grasslands where the loop road leaves Rest Lake and goes
along the E side of Schwartz Lake. We had extremely wonderful views of
this hawk as it stood/ flew several yards/ walked / looked around. We
had great looks at all sides of the hawk. Sweet! Magestic!
