Addendum - this is from a few days ago, but now I now which address to send submissions to...

Hi, it's not really clear about which address to send submissions to so, here goes:

Last evening/Sat - flicker in last years (first year) nesting hole..while another taunted it to get in, but flew off in a huff...then I went out Sun morning and at 7:25 am (while hearing other flickers, crows, winter wrens out and about) the female flicker aroused and peered out (back and forth several times, testing the surroundings, I guess) and then emerged and got on with her day. This is the first roosting experience I have observed. Then around 11:00 a pileated (female) entered the nesting/roost for a bit...feeding, I think.

This was the first year for this hemlock snag in my yard to have a flicker brood and then early this fall a pileated "opened up" the hole further so it could roost there...about 3 evenings in a row, although I did not see the bird leave.

Any one want to set up a flicker cam?

First fall sighting of the ruby crowned kinglet - it loves my suet along w/ the bushtits, et. al.

My neighbor said he'd heard a commotion at 11 pm before Halloween and at first he thought it was an owl, but then recognized the pileated call - don't know if it was disturbed from it's roost.
