Today I went to look at the Black Turnstones and Surfbirds at the Duwamish Head. I started at Alki and walked east along the shore, peeking down at the rocks along the way. The first flock of Turnstones was just east of Alki Beach. I heard them before I saw them as they blend in with the rocky shore. The next flock was mixed Turnstones and Surfbirds, right at the Duwamish Head. These birds were all at rest. It is really neat to look down and see all these birds just a few feet away!!! I kept my eye out for a Rock Sandpiper but didn't see one. Harlequin Ducks were just south of the lighthouse, they have always been regulars there and at Lincoln Park.

If you haven't seen Black Turnstones and or Surfbirds this is a good place to see them up close.
