Dear Tweeters,

I cannot find the address where I should direct this,
but I saw a couple of neck-banded Trumpeter Swans on
11-23-07. They were on the Butler Flats, north of
Burlington, Skagit County, near the east end of
Kelleher Road.

One had a green neck collar with the white characters
"K17." The second character was a vertical stroke with
no serifs--I assume it was a "one."

The total number of birds in the flock was 14, all
Trumpeters. Another banded bird had a white collar of
sorts on its neck. This collar had no numerals or
letters that I could see; a slender, dark-colored
object protruded along the side of the cylindrical
collar. i am guessing it was a radio transmitter.

PS When I tried to figure out what that second
character was in "K17," it reminded me of a Brian
Regan comedy sketch. The customer service rep in the
sketch is giving the customer a code number that he
will have to input, and the code number is made up of
nothing but lower-case ells, ones, zeroes, and letter O's.
