We took numerous calls yesterday from people concerned about the parakeets and made a few calls ourselves. I tried to encourage people who were interested in keeping them there to call PUD and work out a way to provide nesting places for the birds so they would leave the utility polls alone. Some who called wanted Audubon and other "bird lover" groups to do this for them. I told them we could stand behind them but it was their city and they would have to do the nagotiations since these birds are not protected legally.

I understand that PUD may have ask the city councit to keep quiet about their plans for a week to avoid an uprising. Well, I guess that sort of back fired.

I also was told that a lady in town had two Monk Parakeets and use to let them fly about but one day they didn't come back and wham! a whole community was born. Survivalist!!!
