Another good article on the Monk Parakeet situation is from Audubon
Magazine, January 2005:

Interestingly, this article from the National Audubon Society seems to
defend the Monks, citing the same lack of evidence of any true harm caused
by the many established colonies in the U.S.

By the way, a Tahoma Audubon group was recently in Port Orchard, where it
appears that the Monk nest there has fallen into neglect, and no birds were
seen.
