I'm a new subscriber, and a recent returnee to the Olympia area. I found the comments on the Brown pelicans along the coast interesting- we were camping out near Toleak Point last weekend, which is just south of La Push, and there were hundreds of brown pelicans roosting on a huge rock offshore. Pelicans would roost throughout the day, and more would come in at dusk. I wonder if these are some of the birds being seen further south, around the Hoh river? I was definitely amazed at the number present. In addition, I have had the opportunity to hear sandhill cranes passing overhead whenever I've been on hikes along the northern WA coast in the fall. I am curious if any of the birders are more familiar with the crane activity in this area, is it possible they are utilizing the rainforest or beaches for migratory stopovers, or have I just been really lucky to be in the right place at the right time?
