This morning at 8:30 am the Seattle Parks SW gardener and I heard then saw a
Raven at Seward Park. 20 years ago it would have been quite a surprise to
see a Raven in Seattle. Now it is more interesting than surprising. Also
about 3 weeks or so ago I learned that there was a breeding pair of Ravens a
mile or 2 east and across the channel of Lake Washington in Pioneer Park on
Mercer Island. It seems that there have been an increasing number of
reports of sightings of Ravens in the suburban and urban areas of western
Washington. Years ago they would have been restricted to higher in the
mountains and further away from most built up areas. I'm guessing that the
local population has become more adapted to landscapes altered by humans,
much like Ravens in Alaska and some other places in the world.
