Gina Sheridan, my Dad, and I did some birding in Lincoln, Adams,
Whitman , and Spokane Counties this morning (10/7). We had SURF SCOTER
in three counties. Two were in a large group of waterfowl on the Adams
County side of Sprague Lake (in addition to 2 Greater Scaup), one was
at the Sprague STP (Lincoln County), and a 4th was on Granite Lake in
Spokane County, viewed from I-90.



In addition, we had several encounters with LAPLAND LONGSPURS. Four
flew over us at Cow Lake (Adams County) as well as one heard briefly
along the shore of Sprague Lake. Gina heard one along Hwy 23 south of
Sprague in Lincoln County, and 2 flew right over us at Crooked Knee
Lake in Whitman County. This is definitely the time for longspurs!


Additional highlights included 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and a GREAT
EGRET at Cow Lake (Adams County), 75 Long-billed Dowitchers and 7
Pectoral Sandpipers along Hwy 23 south of Sprague (Lincoln County), and
lingering Barn Swallows in several locations. A few migrants were
along the shore of Sprague Lake in Adams County including a Bewick's
Wren, Spotted Towhee, a Townsend's Solitaire, and large numbers of
robins.
