Today I led a field trip of 7 people for Seattle Audubon to Spencer Island in Everett, Snohomish County.

The sunrise during the drive from Seattle to Everett made the day an instant success. And the day continued to improve. The weather was warm and beautiful. Our enthusiastic group observed 51 species today.

The south side bridge is complete. It is now possible to cross the dike trail and return via the south end without having to backtrack. We walked only a small portion of the north end of the island.

Highlights include:

Bald Eagle
Northern Harrier
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Cooper's hawk
Red-tailed hawk
Merlin
Peregrine Falcon - 1 adult
Virginia Rail
Wilson's Snipe - 1
Long-billed Dowitcher - 57 or more; both juv and adult
Greater Yellowlegs - 1
Pileated Woodpecker - 2
Cedar Waxwing - good numbers
Yellow-rumped Warbler - too many to count; they were everywhere.

It was a good day.
