I spent a year (1978-79) in South Florida with my mother & step-dad. He was a contractor with work down on Key Largo. I sometimes drove around there in my mother's car. In late 1979 there were zillions of swallows between Miami and Key Largo, usually flying very low. Many of them were Barn Swallows, but I don't have my Florida notes handy. Anyway, one Barn Swallow got caught in the radiator grill of my step-da d's station wagon. We nursed it back to health on a diet of ground round. It was missing one of its long tail featthers, but proved to be hearty and it flew away seemingly in good condition, after a couple of days.
