yep, the american black duck is back at juanita beach park, and pretty easy
to find most of the time as it spends half along the inside shoreline and
half between the car park and the grass along the inside shoreline...

nothing truly out of the ordinary at JBP today, but nice to see my first
bufflehead pair of the year, and a northern shoveler male (to go with
several females) in the inner cove... he (the NOSH) is looking worse for
wear, and does not have the sharp colours of breeding yet... nice to see
(with habitat change) are the american wigeons on the western boardwalk; as
the trees have fallen in that location, some yard grasses have taken root,
so it should be a nice (if small) spot for a few of them all winter...

lastly, a virginia rail flew into a thicket of reeds along the inner cove
(western stub) last night. i only saw the last two seconds of flight, and i
have to say my friend and i never saw a single reed move as it disappeared
directly into the thick; quite eerie...
