sunday, i went on a scramble to minotaur lake and labyrinth mountain--up by lake wenatchee--to enjoy the sunshine and fall colors. while the scramble was disappointing, two birding encounters helped to salvage the day. first there was a loud williamson's sapsucker drumming on a tree continuously in a quiet forest. the other cool sighting were three bright yellow-headed blackbirds [i think] with a black crown and black breastband --markings like a varied thrush.

i wonder where other birders have been going to enjoy the fall colors.
