Hello Tweeties,

First off, let me ID lst week's mystery bird for you;
it is a Black Bulbul (Hypsipetes leucocephalus), a
passerine found from Madagascar northwards through
India and southern tropical Asia. Sexes are alike.
They eat seeds and insects and are found in in
forests, forest edges and in disturbed areas. Several
people IDd this bird, including Dennis Paulson,
emeritus director of the Slater Museum of Natural
History in Tacoma, WA and Cyril Laubscher, a famous
and very well-travelled bird photographer in Great
Britain.

Okay, this week's issue of Birds in the News is
available for your reading pleasure. It has a lot of
linked stories this week, including lots of unusual
stories, and it features the newly described Sincora
Antwren, Formicivora grantsaui;

I alslo wrote an article that you might find
interesting about the physics of violet, blue and
white feather coloring in birds;

I am sending this essay in for consideration for the
book, Open Lab 2007, which is a collection of the best
science blog essays published this year.

Also, you will love these wonderfully funny cartoons;

I also have an unusual request. A colleague of mine is
being considered for a $10,000 scholarship. She is a
grad student in neurobiology and she really needs this
money to help her finish her education. All you have
to do is vote for her by clicking your mouse;

Okay, that's all for now. Thanks for reading!
