Hi Tweeters,

After work I stopped in Tukwila when I saw a large
flock of gulls on a truck warehouse near the elbow of
the Green River where Thayer's Gulls tend to hang out
in winter. The road is 48th Ave S, the first right
after exiting I-5 from the north onto Interurban.
Both Thayer's Gulls and Herring Gulls were loafing on
top of of the warehouse roof with a few hybrid
Glaucous-winged/Western for contrast. Many of the
Thayer's were of the light eyed variety which seems to
be more common in this grouping of Thayer's Gulls that
visits us. According to Sibley only about 10% of
Thayer's are light eyed.

In the next complex to the north the crows were
gathering to roost and I saw a brown crow, really
brown, latte brown. It had some white/cream color as
well. Another crow in the batch had some white
feather shafts and some white on the feathers also. I
have seen quite a few crows with some white and some
young crows looking brownish but this is my first
latte brown crow. I tried for a picture but my
batteries were dead. If anyone gets a picture I would
love to see it.

Googling Brown Crow gets you to crow hunters pages (go
figure...) If you don't mind looking at trophy crows
there are two brown crows similar to what I saw
without the white/cream color at the crowbusters site.
They have a lot of other interesting color variations
shown.
