Tweeters,

Here's my report to Gary regarding my attempt to find his duck last Sunday.
Of course, the duck could still be around, but I missed it.

---------------

Hi Gary,

I went looking for this duck today, and was at Samish Island's little DNR
park from 1:30-2:30pm.

Parasitic Jaeger and a few Bonaparte Gulls were still putting on a show.

I didn't find any ducks; except for a few Surf and WW Scooters.

I stopped at the bottom of the hill coming down from Samish Island at the
corner of Scott Rd. That corner has a good pull off zone. I walked along
an old driveway that parallels the main road for a short distance (it's a
bit overgrown with briars). From there I scoped a very large flock of
ducks. Even with the scope it was hard to get good looks. The flock was
obviously mostly N. Pintails. I could not ID any other species. There were
more females than males, but both were there. There must have been hundreds
of them. I wondered if your duck was hanging out in that big flock. I
didn't know of any location to get closer to them.

I did not have time to walk to dike at W. 90 either.

Padilla Bay St. Park did not have many ducks. There were a good number of
Common Loons and a few Red-throated also. W. Grebes were spread out but it
looked like a nice sized flock.

It was a fun day, but searching for a duck that has moved on is pretty much
like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Thanks for the report. I thoroughly enjoyed my outing. It was a beautiful
day.

Grace Oliver
