Dennis Duffy pointed out to me that there is a large roost of
Heermann's (500!) and other gulls at the south end of the Edmonds
breakwater, and it's probable the gulls I saw flying south were just
heading for that, as there are large feeding flocks off Whidbey
Island that appear to roost around Edmonds. It does take a lot of
visits to a place to understand what's going on with the birds there.
