Tweets,

Brien Meilleur and I put in the better part of the day birding the Green River Valley south of Seattle (Tukwila, Kent, Auburn, Renton) with brief stops at Juanita Bay and Kenmore on our way home. It turned out to be not a bad day.

Highlights include: PALM WARBLER, one in a largish flock of Yellow-rumped Warblers (plus one Orange-crowned) in the willows around the northwest and north edge of the Boeing Ponds. A male MERLIN at the junction of Fraager Rd. and 212th St.

The RED-SHOULDERED HAWK put in an appearance at the Green River RNA, initially flying east under the powerlines across the street from the se corner of the reserve, then circling back hounded by crows to its more usual haunts in the tall cottonwoods along the ne edge of the ponds. It now appears to be in full adult plumage and is truly striking. The GRNRA census crew was there to witness the event.

Greater Yellowlegs, Dunlin, Long-billed Dowitchers, Wilson's Snipe, and Killdeer in the flooded field about 1/4 mi south of the Smith Brothers' Dairy and just east of West Valley Highway.

A LESSER YELLOWLEGS with eight Greater Yellowlegs at the flooded field along the southern edge of the field west of Emerald Downs Race Track in Auburn. Also, three immature WHITE-FRONTED GEESE at the same spot, along with 45 Cackling Geese and as many Canadas. Cacklers appear to be taking over the world, as we must have counted at least 1000 today.

An EARED GREBE at the Cedar River mouth in Renton. No American Black Duck at Juanita this afternoon.
