Saturday, Mike and MerryLynn Denny and I birded Asotin County in
southeastern Washington. After spending some time in Garfield and Columbia
Counties we started at the mouth of Alpowa Creek where 14 Horned Grebes were
swimming in a very small tight group, which seemed like odd behavior. We
continued east along the Snake River in the wildlife management area where
there were many sparrows mainly White-crowned. We could not locate any
unusual sparrows here.

The Peregrine Falcon was at the normal cliffs just west of Clarkston. We
then stopped behind Costco where a Red-necked Grebe was hanging out near the
boat launch area, even with the many small boats coming and going. Swallows
Park produced 2 Orange-crowned Warblers and 1 Wilson's Warbler which is
getting late and a Townsend's Solitaire.

At the junction of Weisssenfels Road and Snake River Road were quite a few
Mountian Chickadees with 1 Black-capped Chickadee. Seemed like they must
have moved to lower elevation for a reason which we aren't aware of. A
quick stop at the Savage Ponds produced a late Mountain Bluebird. The lower
Pond was dry and the upper pond was almost completely dry.

Many deer, including bucks, were hanging around houses. They might have
figured this out for survival techniques. A call to Larry Hamrin to see if
the Eurasian Collared-Dove(s) might still be around sounds like they were
only seen one day. They are probably still around somewhere, but we could
not locate any. 61 species seen in all.
