Subject: [Tweeters] Discovery Park - Clark's Grebe and interesting tern

Hi Tweets,

I spent about an hour yesterday afternoon scanning Puget Sound from
Discovery Park. There was one nice Clark?s Grebe in the flock of several
hundred Westerns. In addition to other good characters for Clark?s, this
bird had a very bright orange bill, so it should be relatively easy to pick
out if it?s not sleeping.

I also saw an interesting large tern flying south past West Point.
Unfortunately my views of it were brief, and mostly as it flew straight away
from me. However, a few things about it had me thinking it might be an
Elegant Tern. The jizz, wing shape, and bill color and shape seemed more
like Elegant than Caspian. Again, this was based on brief looks, so I?m not
confident of its identity. But I wanted to put word out there in case
anyone sees a similar bird.

Overall, there weren?t many birds flying by the point, but the numbers of
waterbirds hanging out off North Beach are definitely building.

Good birding,

Matt Dufort
