Here is an answer to help you understand why some people still call it The
Montlake Fill.
Memories and connections. There is nothing wrong with the new name and I
don't refuse to use it. It is just that I recall moving to Seattle in 1982
with our infant and buying the guide to birding in Washington...running off
to the Fill, finding the Dime Lot with my infant in a pack. I remember
teaching both my girls the name and showing them the place. To use the name
the Fill and Dime Lot is a wonderful memory and connection.
If I were directing a new person I would tell them the current legal name
and I would tell them the old names and the background. I just love saying
to my now 25 year old daughter: meet me at the Fill..I'll park in the Dime
Lot. Guess I am just getting old and love those old connections!
