This morning I walked the Chehalis River Discovery Trail and found that
the bird activity has picked up. The ponds however are still dried up so
not much in the way of waterfowl. The trail starts at the end of
Goodrich Road in Centralia, and its also known as the Goodrich Ponds.
Here's what I did see for the morning.
Medium sized flocks of Canada Geese flying about. They should get larger
by next month.
Lots of Ring-billed Gulls in the farm fields.
75+ Killdeer along the river.
1 Bald Eagle sitting near its nest site along the river.
2 American Kestrels, 1 being chased by a crow.
3 Northern Harriers
1 American Pipit calling as it flew by.
3 Scrub Jays
Both Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets
Lots of Golden-crowned Sparrows
6 Savannah Sparrows. Seems a little late for the guys to still be
around, but they were in the brambles along the trail.
Several Wood Ducks and 2 Green-winged Teal in the slough on Goodrich Road.
1 Cooper's Hawk flew across Goodrich Road on the way in.
