Hi Tweeters,

I tried unsuccessfully for the Kingbird yesterday.
Third dip on three sightings this year so far. Tried
for the Marymoor one, and the Ocean Shores one as
well. Didn't try for the Bottle Beach one. Boy they
are not sticking around at all.

Nice consolation was great scope looks at a Northern
Shrike. I'm not positive if it is an immature or
not-I think it is an adult. It's face pattern is
likely an example of individual variation. There is
no black forward of the eye except a smidge around the
bill and the black stripe behind the eye seemed
shorter than expected to me and did not hook down much
at all like many of them do. The barring on the
breast was fairly faint. The coloration was overall
gray, and white with black markings. Nice wing
pattern in flight. It was very active except when it
was feeding on a large "bug" and I got it in the
scope. My last view of it was flying far away towards
the Center for Urban Horticulture.

The Buffleheads are back in force. There must have
been 30+ easily in the large numbers of waterfowl out
in Lake Washington. The second nice consolation was
about 10 Canvassbacks way out with the waterfowl.

I did not see Eurasian Wigeon here but finally got to
add Eurasian Wigeon to my Portage Bay work list. I
knew it would happen! Someday. It was near Agua
Verde Restaurant on Boat Street at Sakuma Viewpoint
Park. I was working on campus yesterday (my old
stomping grounds) and walked my old route for lunch
and stopped at the fill after work.

I'll be nice---here are some links to directions to
both the fill and Portage Bay:

the fill (it'll always be the fill to me...)

this is a really nice website by the way
