Rare Bird Alert for an out-of-town BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER.


Sightings for Sunday, October 28th:

At Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood (near Victoria), a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER
was seen in shrubs and trees in the far northwest end of the lagoon Road
near the last three houses. Please contact the Victoria RBA at (250)
592-3381 for updates.

At Serpentine Fen in Surrey, a GREAT EGRET was seen in the pond nearest to
King George Hwy. It was present until at least 2:30 pm.

Five EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen on a telephone wire along Highway 10
in Delta, between 104th and 96th Streets. One of these birds was much paler
than the others, and may have been a hybrid between a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE
and RINGED TURTLE-DOVE.


Sightings for Saturday, October 27th:

At Blackie Spit in Surrey, an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was present in the
environmentally sensitive area. Nearby were the long-staying LONG-BILLED
CURLEW and 2 MARBLED GODWITS.

On the Vancouver-Victoria ferry, in Active Pass, were 850 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES and an immature BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE.

In Vancouver, 4 EVENING GROSBEAKS flew east over 33rd and Heather St.


No reports for Friday, October 26th.


Sightings for Thursday, October 25th:

At Iona Island in Richmond, a ROCK SANDPIPER was present at the tip of the
south jetty.


No reports for Wednesday, October 24th.


Sightings for Tuesday, October 23rd:

At Iona Island, 5 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen on the south jetty.

In South Surrey, 17 SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying over the Nico Wynd Golf
& Country Club.

At Brunswick Point in Delta, a NORTHERN SHRIKE was present.


Sightings for Monday, October 22nd:

On Vancouver Island, a RUSTIC BUNTING was found at Whiffin Spit in Sooke.
It has not been relocated since then.

In White Rock, the WILLET continues 200 metres east of the pier.

In Langley, 26 CACKLING GEESE were seen in the Walnut Grove area.


No reports for October 20th or 21st.


Sightings for Sunday, October 19th:

At Iona Island, a HARRIS'S SPARROW was present 100 metres east of log sort
area. Further along the north jetty were a NORTHERN SHRIKE, 2 HORNED LARKS,
and a LAPLAND LONGSPUR.
