Subject: [Tweeters] scrub-jay in Maple Leaf, Seattle, 10/25

Isa Werny, our neighbor across the street, saw a scrub-jay last week
on October 25th. It landed on her feeder and then flew away, not to
be seen again. I've looked and listened for this species constantly
in the 16 years we've lived here, with no luck, and I'm not home the
day one chooses to visit! I guess it won't be too long before scrub-
jays are all over Seattle, but this is the first I've heard of in
this immediate area.

On the down side, two Norway Rats have become addicted to the millet
scattered on the ground and the sunflower seeds that fall out of the
feeder, and they are coming out in the day time regularly now. Any
time I looked out the window this afternoon I could see them. I
suspect those of us who feed birds are supporting a population of
rats equal in biomass to our bird flocks.
