this past weekend, i looked out onto the mostly-calm waters of juanita bay,
and spotted about one hundred of the park's winter visitors close to the
causeway: ring-necked ducks (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring-necked_Duck ). this duck has always
confused me just a bit, as there is a VERY prominent ring on the drake's
bill, while the ring for which the duck is named is barely visible (if at
all)... this, of course, means i will call the duck something else first,
even going so far as to ask wikipedia for a link to something that doesn't
(yet?) exist... then, of course, i'll call the duck something else,
something usually inappropriate if not downright rude...

anyway, as always, the latest free Park Gallery desktop calendar is one of
the drakes as he's paddling quietly away in the midst of juanita bay, and is
available on the website (calendar section). i hope you enjoy... :)
